Default Dwarven Ale

Yep, Dwarven Ale now costs 1k EACH in this new patch. I am not complaining, however I think that this price is way too high. With a 1k tag like that, nobody is buying it anymore. Lol, I even thought 200g was alot. So I would like to make a suggestin to lower the price back down to 200g or lower.

1000g a go???? So to get drunk (Which requires 5) you need to spend 5000g...

Well that's another money sink down the drain (If you excuse the pun).

Drinks should cost only 100g, it would make it more fair and more people would use it.

You can get Hunter's Ale in Pre-Searing very easily... just talk to the hunters, kill a bear in the allotted time, rinse and repeat.

Haven't tried it yet, but what is the purpose of getting drunk?

Why would you spend $5000 just to get your swerve on? Even 100g is expensive. Have a bar near where I live that has $1 Coronas. Dwarven ale is more priced like cocaine, and it should do more for my character to my character than just get him drunk at that price.

Same thing as Dwarven, maybe less potent, but I don't know as I havent waste my money on any to test. It's not in a mission...you search the woods for about 6 drunken hunter's who boast about killing a bear in a certain amount of time. You are then given like 2 minutes to go kill a bear and return to them. Your reward is Hunter's Ale. They're located somewhere near Wizard's Folly if I'm not mistaken.

There should be arange of ales.. some make your screen swirly, distortaion of funny colors, and another that makes everything look as tho its moving very fast, when its not. then a price for each could be made.. cheapo stuff 50g, more expensive stuff 250g

A box of dwarven cigars would be nice too..

You character should also slowly get addicted to ale.. depending on how much you pressure you character into having a drink. comments like: "I need a drink", "Im not fighting anything till i get an ale" etc could pop up above your characters head. the down fall is your character miss's alot when they attack.. (when you dont give them what they want) but after awhile there craving disapears. and they no longer desire an ale unless you make them over drink again. and the downfall too much drink knocks them over cold, on the ground. Same addiction could apply to other fun items in the game. But most people just drink in towns.. i however drink before running into battle. it awsome and painful on the eyes. but its fun.

Different ales would be cool. Imagine if you could make your own ale. Then instead of Guild Halls there could be Guild Pubs as well, and you could have drinking contests to win team rank. Like who's guild could hold their drink more. We could go even further. lets say your guild pub had a brew master (NPC Character), and in order to brew certain ales you needed to bring him crafting items to unlock it. The rarer the crafting item the better the brew, the higher the price. That ale would then be available for purchase from individuals. Pubs could become the hub for trading, BS talking, GvG Challenges and what not. And, pubs could be purchased in any town or large settlement. Leaving actual in town for those looking to do missions. Then if they were Guild Pubs you could have themes like, Dance Club, Sports Bar, Irish Pub, hole in the wall etc... I would want guild pub's to be expensive though, to limit the number overall. Maybe make it so you have to have a Hall first and then like another 10 sigils to get a pub.

They're probably doing it as a move to discourage the idea that somehow a.net promotes drunkenness. You think it's a stupid reason? Tell that to the modern day litigious society.

It just takes one unusual set of circumstances to ruin it for everybody.

One "higher morality" group to complain and raise a stink to boycott or blacklist the game. Should we be encouraging minors to go on drunken binging, even if it's online and not harming anybody? What sort of message is this sending to our youth today?

One parent who, with the help of a scheming, high priced lawyer, somehow links their son's alcohol related death to his frequent on-line boozing adventures that led to his real-life experimentation (hell, it's cool to do it in-game over and over...).

So it takes FIVE even of the new ones to get drunk?

Man that sucks, I wanted to buy 100 of them for my 21st birthday this year, August 16th, and get my character SO drunk it isn't even funny, but now I wont' be able to, I don't even come close to the gold requirement...

*begs for them for her birthday gifts? XD*

Oh yeah btw...

Deus Ex promotes drinking wine, heavy liquor and beer, as well as smoking and taking drugs that actually make you high/drunk in game as well...

The sequel does too, I think, I'd have to play it again and see for certain.

In the first one they had cigarette machines and such around that you could buy cigarettes from in the game...

SO, if thsi game wasn't blacklisted, Guild Wars sure as heck won't be either...

It's actually south of Fort Ranik, south west of where the Apple barrel is.

As for the promoting of drinking, anyone remember what the game is rated? As long as it's not T or E they can have all the drinking they want and not have a problem with lawsuits.

I hate political correctness just as much as the next guy, but even WoW has ways to get drunk. I honestly don't think they would've put it in in the first place if there was an issue here.

If you ask me, they raised prices to further the effectiveness of ale as a money sink. It will undoubtedly backfire on them, because only a bot-farmer with a few hundred thousand gold would bother to waste 5000 gold to get hammered for a minute.

I'm in A.C.T., and in our first event since the patch that added ale, we handed them out at 50G. It was a great way to roleplay a concession stand, and it was an excellent way to congratulate ourselves on a job well done by havin' our own little party. We didn't get that party, though, and figured we would do it after our most recent event, which was actually inerrupted by the patch being released. Imagine our surprise when we found out about the price hike.

If anything, the price should go down. ANet should know that this won't dampen inflation, regardless of the price, so just make it something fun that's available to everyone, rather than reserve the right to get drunk for only the obscenely rich / idiots.

It almost feels like this was an accident. Maybe someone typed an extra 0 in the cost, eh?

P.S. This post is proof of how much I love this game. This is the only complaint I have that's worth mentioning.

I only hope that's the case and prices will reflect more "normal" costs eventually.

As for comparing Deus Ex to Guild Wars... One is rated M and the other is rated T.

For some reason the Hunters Ale does not stack up so even though it says uses left = 1 there is never more then 1. so that does not make much since...

And from what I saw the hunters ale is less potent then dwarven ale.

nechronius: Should we be encouraging minors to go on drunken binging, even if it's online.

Why not. after all why did they put the choice of ale into guildwars to begin with? so people could have fun with ale.. or to encourage people's characters to get wasted and trip out with some new freaky effects. who know what they were thinking at that time.
-------

As for GvG drinking contests. it wouyld be something aside from the hacking and slashing of your enemies, I do hope that there would be more GvG activities besides killing each other. In the long run that is what most already encourage. Futher more instead of buying a guild pub, just allow a small extension to the guild halls... Allow some upgrades to unlock new types of GvG game modes with these upgrades. Example: A mini bar.. where Guild members (certain amount of people) can compeat against another guild team for the title..

This could be set up easily, just have a timer.. which clicks down. lets say 1 minute. during that time your team has to drink as many ales as possable. the more you drink the more points your team gets. the downfall is the more you drink the quicker you health drains.. the slower you drink the less your health goes down.. making it tactical to get more drinks drunken then your opponent team. When your health reaches 0 your character passes out..

Now guildwars team could set it up so you can view you character actually drinking an ale when you oder him/her to drink. the effects of loosing health due to atoxication could make your character sway alittle. and of course knock down when you have 0 health left.

There could be other fun GvG activity upgrades as well.. but i can think of anymore at this time.. At least more unlocked when you upgrade your hall with new objects etc. And i think that would give guilds some more to strive for.

To purchase an upgrade to your guild hall. Could cost a new type of item like an: Upgrade Sigil + Resources to construct this new addition to your guild hall. A NPC could reside in your guild hall allowing guild leaders to visit him to buy these upgrades. That way if other GvG activities cam avalable, They just need visit him/her, pay for an upgrade sigil + the resources to whatever Addon they wanted to construct.
-------

As for party well.. maybe they add in some balloons or something.. i dunno about this idea..
